I also discuss the benefits of adding subtitles to Blogger articles. This is an easy tweak to your Blogger blog that anyone can carry out in a couple of minutes.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Benefits of Using Subtitles in Posts</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Adding a subtitle which appears below the title of your post can be both eye catching and informative. For instance a titling schema for this post could be: </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Title: Add a Subtitle to a Blogger Blog</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Subtitle: Make Your Posts More Search Engine Friendly and User Friendly</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you craft your titles and subtitles carefully you will encourage more targeted readers of your blog as they will be able to see at a glance what your post is about rather than reading the whole article. Your traffic therefore might be slightly less but they will be far more targeted to the content of your site resulting in a lower bounce rate. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If the subtitle you choose for your Blogger post is keyword rich then you are also improving your chances of gaining a higher position in search engine result pages because search engines give added weight to headings and to text early on in an article. By adding a subtitle to a Blogger post you have a SEO tool which if used effectively could result in more visitors finding your site because of higher keyword density. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You can of course add a subtitle manually to each post and format it everytime. The advantage of this method over doing it manually though is that all the formatting is in the stylesheet section of your template so you only have to change the colour scheme and font variables in one location and Blogger will look after the rest. Any change will be reflected in each and every post that has the subtitle <div> tags. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">How to Add a Subtitle to Blogger Posts </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This tutorial guides you through the steps to take to add a subtitle to your Blogger blog. The trick requires only takes a few short minutes and requires only a small snippet of code to be added to your template. Provided the instructions are followed anyone can do this including beginners and new bloggers. Interestingly it is not widely known or written about in technical blogs that a subtitle can be added to your Blogger Blogspot blog posts yet the advantages are considerable. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1. Log in to Blogger and navigate to Design > Edit HTML</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2. Find the </b:skin> tag in your template. If you are have difficulty finding it use CTRL + F to bring up the Blogger toolbar at the bottom of your blog and enter the tag </b:skin> into the search box on the toolbar</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3. Copy and paste the code below into your template making sure that it appears before the </b:skin> closing tag. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">.subtitle{</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">font-family:Trebuchet MS',Verdana,Arial,Sans-serif;</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">font-size:15px;</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">color: #ca1717;</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">line-height:20px;</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">}</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This code inserts a subtitle in red. This Blogger tutorial will show you how to manually create categories in Blogger from your existing labels so that all the articles listed under a particular label will be displayed. </div><div><br /></div><div>While this way to add categories to Blogger is not an ideal solution it will mean that you can display a logical grouping of your most popular articles under the one heading. </div><div><br /></div><div>This article is aimed at new bloggers and beginner bloggers although it is suitable for all Blogger bloggers (Blogspot bloggers). No changes to the template are required to add these categories to your Blogger blog (Blogspot blog). </div><div><br /></div><h3>How to Create Categories from Labels in Blogger</h3><div>One easy way to create a categories section in Blogger is to simply rename the title of the labels widget as categories. This solution does not work for me because on this blog I have a huge number of labels and I don't want to show this widget at the top of my sidebar. </div><div><br /></div><div>An easy way round this problem is create a separate categories section. If you look at the sidebar of this blog you will notice that I have several major categories at the top so that a new visitor will find what they are looking for quickly under these broad headings. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div>To add a categories section to a Blogger blog (Blogspot blog) follow these simple steps:</div><div><br /></div><div>1. Decide how you want to group your articles according to the labels applied and what group heading you want to give to each grouping of articles.</div><div><br /></div><div>2. For the first category navigate to the individual page of the label you wish to use by clicking on the label in your sidebar. Copy the URL address of this page from the address bar in your browser (right click and select copy). For example the URL address of the label of Blogger Tutorials on this site is:</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>http://dailybloggiingtips.blogspot.com//search/label/Blogger%20Tips</div><div><br /></div><div>3. From the Blogger Dashboard go to Design > Page Elements</div><div><br /></div><div>4. Click Add a Gadget in the sidebar and select Links List</div><div><br /></div><div>5. In the Configure Link List dialog box that appears paste the link to your label into the New Site URL box</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhup5LYJ-XnuJRNLnegRF8JKNXFKrzgLV5ccIshPjiTid94UDGHZyv9eeexQfomxm2E6y4GvgycL5REaPn8fk5L2SCBoCv9_4XIK6GiwniVuRWrsjFFF3u1tch6dxAMaXtGdzBnYQMv0MpH/s1600/blogger_configure-link-list.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="configure link list" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhup5LYJ-XnuJRNLnegRF8JKNXFKrzgLV5ccIshPjiTid94UDGHZyv9eeexQfomxm2E6y4GvgycL5REaPn8fk5L2SCBoCv9_4XIK6GiwniVuRWrsjFFF3u1tch6dxAMaXtGdzBnYQMv0MpH/s1600/blogger_configure-link-list.jpg" title="configure link" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div>6. By the end you will end up with two or more categories in your list</div><div><br /></div><div>12. It is also easy since it requires no editing of your Blogger template. This Blogger tutorial assumes limited technical knowledge of Blogger and is mostly aimed at new bloggers and beginners although it is suitable for any Blogspot blogger looking to increase action on their blog.</div><div><br /></div><div>If you would like to add a Recent Posts Feed to your Blogger website please refer to my earlier article Add a Recent Posts Feed to a Blogger Blog (Blogspot Blog)</div><div><br /></div><div>Below I will take you through the steps of adding a feed widget to the Blogger sidebar so that the Blogger default comments feed will be displayed there. Equally you could add this widget to the footer if you prefer. </div><div><br /></div><div>I am going to show you two different widgets to add Recent Comments to your blog. Which you choose is up to you and largely depends on how many comments you wish to display. </div><div><br /></div><h3>Method 1 - Using the Blogger Feed Widget to </h3><div>Add Recent Comments Feed to Blogger</div><div>This first method is the old way to add recent comments to Blogger using the Blogger feed widget and is still my preferred method. The limitations are though that the maximum number of comments displayed is 5.</div><div><br /></div><h3>Method 2 - Alternative Method to Add Recent Comments Feed to Blogger</h3><div>There is another Blogger widget that can be added to Blogger which will display up to 10 of the most recent comments on your blog. By default it shows the author's name and this can not be removed. If you are happy with this and would like more comments displayed this is a nice widget. One problem with the widget though is it will not necessarily display in the font of your blog. You will need to check this by installing it to try it out.</div><div><br /></div><h4>Add a Recent Comments Feed to the Sidebar of a Blogger Blog</h4><div><br /></div><div>Login to you Blogger blog</div><div><br /></div><div>From the Dashboard go to Design > Page Elements</div><div><br /></div><div>Click on Add a Gadget in the sidebar</div><div><br /></div><div>Select the Feed widget from the list of Basic Widgets</div><div><br /></div><div>A popup dialog box will appear requesting you to configure the URL of your feed. By implementing these steps you will improve the likelihood of your site ranking more highly in search engine results of major search engine players Google, Yahoo and MSN and as a result increase the number of visitors accessing your site.</span></div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><div><br /></div><h3>10 Easy SEO Tips for Blogspot Bloggers to Improve Search Engine Rankings</h3><div><br /></div><h4>1. Make Your Title Tags Search Engine Friendly</h4><div>One of the most important tweaks necessary for Blogspot Blogs is the adjustment of the title tags of your website because Blogger.com by default has not optimized these for search engines. To prove this point navigate to an individual post on your blog and you will see that the blogname appears first in the title bar at the top of your browser followed by the post name. As search engines place greater value on the first words of an entry this puts your site at a disadvantage in search engine results. Fortunately it is easy to reverse the blog name and the post name with a simple tweak. For instructions on how to change the order of these title tags please refer to my article entitled Adjust Blogger Title Tags to Improve SEO</div><div><div><br /></div><h4>2. Create Search Engine Friendly Permalinks</h4><div>Blogger automatically generates a permalink based on the title of your post each time you make a post. For this reason it is important to craft your title carefully. Permalinks are sometimes less than ideal especially if you have a long title. </div></div><div><br /></div><div>You will see that it is search engine friendly in that in contains 2 keywords blogger and permalinks. However you may be surprised to know that How to Create Search Engine Friendly Permalinks for Blogger Posts is actually the title of this post not Improved Permalinks for Blogger Posts. I have initially used a title that is keyword rich and then after publishing gone back and entered a more descriptive title. No matter how many times I change the title the original permalink remains</div><div><br /></div><div><h4>3. Add a Social Networking Button to Your Blog</h4><div>By adding a Social Bookmarking button to your website you will enable visitors to your blog to create links to popular social bookmarking sites such as Google, Technorati, Facebook, MySpace, Digg, Stumble Upon, Reddit, Delicious, Furl, Yahoo etc. This means that visitors to your site will be able share these links with others thereby helping you attract more traffic to your site and encourage return visits. </div><div><br /></div><div>Another benefit of a social bookmarking button is that you will be able to identify visitor trends and social bookmarking behaviour on your site. For more information on how to add a free Add This Social Bookmarking button to your Blogger blog </div></div><div><br /></div><div><h4>4. Submit a Sitemap of Your Blog to Popular Search Engines</h4><div>If attracting traffic to your site is important to you then it is imperative that you ensure that your Blogger (Blogspot) blog is properly indexed by popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. One way to expedite this is to submit a sitemap to each of three major search engines. Please refer to my tutorials on website submission, authenticating your site and adding your site feed to Google Webmaster Tools and MSN Webmasters Tools.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><h4>5. Build Quality Links</h4><div>If you want to rank highly in Google and other search engines then you need to generate quality in-bound links. That doesn't mean exchanging links with everything and everyone as I see some new webmasters do. A few quality links from authoritative sites will boost your page rankings quickly and are far superior to a bunch of links from low ranking sites.</div><div><br /></div><div>There are several good ways to generate links to your blog. One easy way is to to submit your site to blog directories. For more information on recommended blog directories please see my article Submit Your Blogger Blog to Blog Directories. Another way to cultivate in-bound links is to submit your best articles to article directories. A third possibility is to actively participate in forums and on other related blogs where commenting affords you the option of adding a link to your site.</div><div><br /></div><div>I would recommend linking to DMOZ (Open Directory Project) and Yahoo Web Directory. Care needs to be taken to submit your site to the correct subject area. Becoming listed can take a while so patience is needed. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><h4>6. Write Quality Content and Post Frequently</h4><div>If you have read any articles on the subject of Blogging and SEO you will no doubt have observed writers emphasising the importance of quality content. I can't stress enough how much return visits depend on providing inducements to visitors to come back. If your site content is well written and informative half the battle is won. Make sure you post frequently so that visitors can see the value of subscribing in a reader. Take some care with the presentation of your content and images as this will present a professional image. Avoid common pitfalls like bad grammar and spelling mistakes which stand out like a sore toe and detract from a visitor's overall positive experience of your site.</div><div><br /></div><div>One leading professional blogger Yaro Starak recommends the use of pillar articles. These are articles that don't change over time and continue to attract visitors. The best pillar articles explain some concept, provide definitions, give advice or present some argument. Your site needs to have at least 5 pillar articles and more if you can manage it. Pillar articles need to be more than 500 words long, crafted to generate interest and provide a welcome resource to your visitors. </div><div><br /></div><h4>7. Ensure Your Content is Keyword Rich</h4><div>Apart from the quality of your content there is the question of keyword density. The more keyword rich your posts are the greater the likelihood they will appear higher in search engine results. This means it is worth the effort of crafting your content in such a way that you make use of important keywords and keyword phrases frequently used. Don't go overboard however as Google is smart enough to recognise if your pages are littered with keywords and nothing much else. A useful free SEO tool to help you optimise your site using keywords and labels is Google Adwords. Another good tool to help you quickly craft keyword rich material is Live Keyword Analysis which assesses the keyword density of keywords and keyword phrases of any post you paste into the analysis box.</div><div><br /></div><div>When writing posts make sure your opening sentence describes what the article is about and contains your keywords and keyword phrases. It is important that your first sentence is keyword rich as search engines like Google give more emphasis to content at the beginning of the post. Also it is worth including a short ending statement about the content of the post as there is some evidence that Google also places value on the content at the end of the post.</div><div><br /></div><h4>8. Manage Your Feeds Carefully</h4><div>Feeds help your visitors find your site so they need to be managed carefully in order to make the most of them. Your site feeds are an important way to create backlinks too. Backlinks from authoritative sites are highly valuable and can boost your page ranking. For information about showing backlinks please refer to the Blogger Help Article About Backlinks</div><div><br /></div><div>Ensure you have your RSS feed icons clearly visible for visitors to see. The most superior positioning of the feed icons on your site is in the header. Watch out for coming tutorials on how to improve positioning of RSS feed links.</div><div><br /></div><div>You can redirect your feed to a feedburning service like Feedburner and then add a chicklet to your site (orange RSS feed button) so that the feed is instantly available on click. Please refer to my tutorials about Blogger feeds:Burn a Blogger RSS Feed at Feedburner and Blogger RSS Feeds and Feedburner. To add a FeedFlare to your burned feed check out my tutorial. </div><div><br /></div><div>If you haven't burnt your feed you can try adding a Subscription Links widget to a sidebar too to encourage visitors to subscribe to your site in popular on-line readers such as Google Reader. You will find the Subscription Links widget available under the list of gadgets.</div></div><div><br /></div><div>Display your most recent posts by configuring a feed widget. Under Layout > Page Elements add a feed gadget to a sidebar. Enter the URL of the default feed of your site which will be:</div><div><br /></div><div><div><br /></div><div><b>http://yoursitename.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default</b></div><div><br /></div><div>Enter Recent Posts in the title and then Save. For more information about adding a posts feed widget to a sidebar please refer to my article Add a Recent Posts Feed to a Blogger Blog </div><div><br /></div><div>You can do the same for comments if you wish to have a list of recent comments displayed in your sidebar. In this case you would enter:</div><div><br /></div><div><b>http://yoursitename.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/default</b></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>For more in depth coverage about adding a comments feed to your sidebar please see my article Add a Recent Comments Feed to a Blogger Sidebar</div><div><br /></div><div>Ensure you set up your site feeds to show the full text. To check this navigate to Settings > Site Feeds and select yes from the dropdown box for all three feeds.</div><div><br /></div><div>Consider having a feed specifically for a popular label if it contains 20 or more posts.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><h4>9. Optimize Your Use of Images</h4><div>Chances are you don't give a thought to images when you insert them into your posts but images can be optimized by careful use of filenames and the alt attribute. When naming images avoid long names. Instead give your images distinctive filenames rather than something generic like 00045.jpg which has no meaning. </div><div><br /></div><div>The alt attribute allows you to specify what text is displayed when a visitor's mouse hovers over an image. The alt attribute also gets displayed if the image is not available for some reason. By optimizing your alt attributes you are increasing the likelihood of your images appearing in Google Image Searches.</div><div><br /></div><div>Optimizing your alt attributes is easy. Every time you insert an image into a post look for the alt attribute which will be empty by default</div><div><br /></div><div>style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 122px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/abcdeefgBxA/4560/sidebar-add-this-bookmark-button.JPG" border="0" /></div><div><br /></div><div>Fill in the alt attribute with a useful description of your image </div><div><br /></div><div>style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 122px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="Blog Know How Sidebar Showing Add This Bookmark Button" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/abcdeefgBxA/4560/sidebar-add-this-bookmark-button.JPG" border="0" /></div><div><br /></div><div>Depending on the subject of your site you can gain a lot of traffic from the images you post on your site. The more unique the content of your site the greater the likelihood that your traffic will stem from images. Without going overboard ensure you have a good mix of images to support your articles.</div><div><br /></div><h4>10. Take Advantage of Web Analytics Services</h4><div>Having implemented some strategies to improve crawling and indexing of your site by search engine giants Google, Yahoo and MSN chances are you will want to see how these changes have impacted on the traffic reaching your site. Web Analytics programs are a valuable tool for gaining insight into visitor behaviour and trends. </div></div><div>To integrate Google Analytics into your Blogger (Blogspot) blog please refer to my articles Track Visitors to Your Blogger Blog and Add Google Analytics to Blogger Blog</div><div><br /></div></span></div>my bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05361179162874067109noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331925646974124262.post-68276364022689450162013-07-09T02:49:00.000-07:002013-07-10T04:17:23.618-07:00How To Add a Horizontal Links Menu to Blogger<h2><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">How To Add a Horizontal Links Menu to Blogger</span></h2><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="horizontal text menu" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOMYwb9zUDT8Hgrx8O-w9ot2Lgnm24JOToMnBHH4FdiiHacP_fc2GObVWYyke1_FwebXuU5YuMl_36TuTIdp2paDErCuSDmi7Dgjt5tcMimUw-KMpoH6lX_D44C1ugNHPP-DE9EHkoTQf5/s1600/images(6).jpg" title="horizontal text menu" /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br /><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In this Blogger tutorial you will learn how to place a horizontal row of menu items above your first post in your Blogger blog (Blogspot blog). This process requires adding both a small amount of code to your Blogger template and a HTML/Javascript widget to your layout. This tutorial is suitable for Blogger (Blogspot) webmasters of all abilities.</span></div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><div><br /></div><div>Navigating a website using a horizontal menu is a traditional way to get around. On this blog for example you can see that I have tweaked Blogger to create a row of horizontal text links for easier navigation of popular pages and labels. In this tutorial you will learn about different ways to add Google Adsense to your blog. Along the way I will be offerring a few tips about best placement of Google Adsense units. I have aimed this Blogger tutorial at new bloggers and beginners and assumes no prior knowledge of Google Adsense. Bear in mind that before you can start to add Google Adsense to your Blogger blog you will need to have created an Adsense account.</span></div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><div><br /></div><h3>3 Ways to Add Google Adsense to Blogger</h3><div>There are two main ways to add Google Adsense to Blogger: one is to use a Google Adsense widget and the other is to use a HTML/Javascript widget. There is also a third way, which is outside the scope of this article, which is to hard code the Adsense code directly into the template. </div><div><br /></div><h3>Adding a Google Adsense Widget to Blogger </h3><div>An Adsense widget is a container for the Google Adsense code. Once created it is easy with Blogger's powerful interface to drag and drop widgets into different positions within your template. Google Adsense widgets can be added to the header, sidebar, footer, or body of your blog. A Google Adsense widget is created when you click on an Add a Gadget button in the Layout > Page Elements menu and then select Adsense.</div><div><br /></div><h3>How to Add a Google Adsense Widget to the Sidebar</h3><div>The simplest way to add Google Adsense is to select Adsense from the range of gadgets offered in the Layout > Page Elements page. Assuming you are using one of Blogger's standard templates you will more than likely be adding a skyscraper unit 160x600 or similar to the sidebar. </div><div><br /></div><div>Google will work out the color scheme of the ad unit for you according to your template. You can override these settings if need be and configure the colors manually but stick with the default unless you have good reason not to. Another decision you will need to make is about the format of the ad unit. You can choose between text only and text and image. Personally I prefer text units for sidebars as you get more bites of the cherry than with an image unit. Images only advertise one thing while text units may provide up to 5 different links. However if you need a particular look you might still need to go for the image unit which is why Google offer this flexibility in the first place. Bear in mind that the combined text and image units are considered to be the highest earners.</div><div><br /></div><div><h3>Add an Adsense Widget to the Footer</h3><div>Another not so widely used place for a Google Adsense unit is in the footer of your blog. If your template has a footer (eg Blogger standard templates like Minima and Rounders both have footer sections) you can add a Google ad unit to this area too. Footers are becoming increasingly popular places to add information like Archives and Follower widgets so visitors are getting used to the idea of scrolling down to the bottom of the page to check out the footer. </div><div><br /></div><div>A linked 728x15 ad is a good choice for a footer position especially if you have a Followers widget enabled in the footer. I place this linked ad unit directly above the Followers widget. I suggest you make use of linked units if you can - you are allowed up to 3 linked units per page. Linked ad units can earn revenue if strategically placed on your blog. Do keep in mind though that Google Adsense units nearer the top and middle of the page are more visible and are likely to be your top performers.</div></div><h3><br />HTML/Javascript Widget</h3><div><div>The second way to add Google Adsense to your blog is to use a HTML/Javascript widget. Make use of these if you want to have more control over your advertising and track your Google ad units. To get the code in the first place you will need to login to Google Adsense and create each ad unit in the size of your choice from the Ads for Content menu. This will allow you to set up a unique channel for each ad unit you create so that you can identify which are your top performing units. For every new ad unit generated Google Adsense provides the code which you will need to copy and paste into a HTML/Javascript widget positioned in either the sidebar or the footer position.</div><div><br /></div><h3>How to Add Google Adsense Between Posts</h3><div>Blogger is such a powerful Blogging platform with so many great features. One of these features is the facility to set Adsense to appear between blog posts. All that is needed is to navigate to Layout > Page Elements. Click on the edit Blog Posts link and check Show Ads Between Posts (last in the list)from the Select Items menu. I usually select 336x280 ad unit size as this gives a good ratio of links for the size. I also prefer text units for this position too as again you are more likely to have a visitor click on a link if they are presented with quite a few. Save and view your blog. Blogger automatically places one of three Google Adsense ads directly below each of the first three posts. If you want to space the ads further apart you can do so though in my experience there really is no advantage in doing this.</div><div><br /></div><div>Remember that you can have up to three ad units and up to three linked ad units displayed at any one time. If you have ads in another part of your blog for instance Blogger will automatically recognise this and only display 2 other ad units. Sometimes I notice there is a bit of a glitch with Blogger and it may not display sidebar ads in favour of 3 ads in between posts so you might have to play around with this a little to get the positioning you want.</div></div><div><br /><br /><h4>Note: To Center the Google Adsense Ad Unit</h4><br /><b>Go to Layout > Edit HTML</b><br />Check the <b>Expand Widget Templates </b>box<br />Make sure you back up your template before proceeding<br />Find the code block beginning with this line:<br /><br /><span style="background-color: #ea9999;"><data:defaultAdStart/></span><br /><br />Scroll down until you find these lines:<br /><br /><span style="background-color: #ea9999;"><div class='inline-ad'></span><br /><span style="background-color: #ea9999;"><data:adCode/></span><br /><br />Change these lines to the following:<br /><span style="background-color: #ea9999;"><div class='inline-ad'></span><br /><span style="background-color: #ea9999;"><P ALIGN='center'><data:adCode/></P></span><br /><br />Save template<br /><br /><br />In my next couple of articles about Google Adsense I will be discussing how to add Google Adsense to other parts of your Blogger template including in the header, before the first post, after the last post, and in the middle of posts. This article has covered the basics of placement of Google Adsense for Blogger and offerred some suggestions about best placement of Google Adsense ad units.<br /></div></span></div>my bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05361179162874067109noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331925646974124262.post-19466055028074415592013-07-09T01:58:00.000-07:002013-07-10T04:17:23.568-07:00How To Track Visitors to Your Blogger Blog<h2><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">How To Track Visitors to Your Blogger Blog</span></h2><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMc2CCLvqdU-hxtgzL8eEZMAVg-4jstK5FnOG7bqt8qT6DW_Hda8gjm7FBhB90KmsdmPBHffR9W_O5jAW9TZXDR0p7q54IvLdhGt4H_hHrvLfnkoQ4Wl_xfLzNtYjJhK8X0y5IixDkqBh5/s1600/LogoVisitorTracking.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="visitor tracking to blog" border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMc2CCLvqdU-hxtgzL8eEZMAVg-4jstK5FnOG7bqt8qT6DW_Hda8gjm7FBhB90KmsdmPBHffR9W_O5jAW9TZXDR0p7q54IvLdhGt4H_hHrvLfnkoQ4Wl_xfLzNtYjJhK8X0y5IixDkqBh5/s200/LogoVisitorTracking.jpg" title="visitor tracking to blog" width="193" /></a></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><div>A tracking and statistics program is a necessary tool for anyone wishing to build a profitable blog. You can create a blog about virtually anything you like and take advantage of this powerful blogging software.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><h3>How Do I Get an Account at Blogger.com?</h3><div>Anyone can sign up at Blogger.com. If you already have a Google account (eg gmail email address) you will find the process of signing up to Blogger.com very easy since Google owns the Blogger platform. The advantage of using your existing Google account is that you can gain instant access to many other Google Services such as Picasa Web Albums, Adsense, Google Reader and Webmaster Tools while you are signed in. If you don't yet have a gmail account you can apply for one at gmail.com. Should you wish to use you own email address you can do so but you will forfeit the advantage of immediate access to Google's network of tools and resources.</div><div><br /></div><div>Once you have a Google account you are ready to sign on at Blogger.com. Simply direct your browser to Blogger.com and click on the "Create an Account" button.</div><div><br /></div><h3>Setting Up an Account at Blogger.com</h3><div>Setting up your blog is a 3 step process: creating an account, naming your blog and choosing a template. You will be prompted for a name which you will use to sign all of your blog posts. As you will see your email address becomes your account name. Once you have created an account you will be free to create as many blogs as you wish using the one account.</div><div><br /></div><div><div>Naming your blog requires some thought. Choose a name that is short, memorable and is associated with your blog theme. Long names are difficult to remember and are therefore best avoided.</div><div><br /></div><div>The next choice you will be asked to make is to select a template. This can be changed at a later date so don't worry if you are uncertain about your choice at this stage. Choose the template that most closely resembles the look and feel of the site you wish to create.</div><div><br /></div><h4><b>Configuring Blogger.com Settings</b></h4><h4><br />Basic Settings</h4><div>Before launching into your first post you will need to set up a few blog settings. From the "Settings" tab click on the "Basic" link and enter the blog title you wish to use and a short description of your site on the page which appears. Save these settings by clicking on the button at the bottom of the page.</div><div><br /></div><h4>Formatting</h4><div>Under the "Formatting" link you will need to adjust the date format and time for your blog according to your geographical location. Don't forget to save these changes.</div><h4><br />Commenting</h4><div>In the "Comments" section you can control how people can comment on your blog. If you set this to registered users you will avoid a lot of unwelcome spam. Setting the "Moderate Comments" option will enable you to view comments before they appear live on your site.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><h4>Permissions</h4><div>You can choose to keep your blog private, invite readers to visit your blog or open your blog up to anyone and everyone.</div><div><br /></div><div>Once these basic settings are configured you will be in a position to start making posts to your blog. Use the preview button often to help you confirm your changes are successful.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></span></div>my bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05361179162874067109noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331925646974124262.post-15402461120237826162013-07-09T01:23:00.000-07:002013-07-10T04:17:23.557-07:00How to Create Search Engine Friendly Permalinks for Blogger<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">How to Create Search Engine Friendly Permalinks for Blogger</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7imJxr3TsHke_Dr8WmMHFtjNEC8XEZEDcIuGBOFnEDyqyoy3za2OoVcT875EiCvUv7ZaTisKyQE59vQZQ4NsZJR-Y9L8LQNGeNqPVp05xz7oZD80DPIh5gJw-4XVl1j9j6ScxDWIRBSoN/s1600/images(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="blogger permalink" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7imJxr3TsHke_Dr8WmMHFtjNEC8XEZEDcIuGBOFnEDyqyoy3za2OoVcT875EiCvUv7ZaTisKyQE59vQZQ4NsZJR-Y9L8LQNGeNqPVp05xz7oZD80DPIh5gJw-4XVl1j9j6ScxDWIRBSoN/s1600/images(2).jpg" title="blogger permalink" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For any webmaster of a Blogger Blogspot blog good permalinks will help ensure that your traffic finds your site and is an important SEO consideration. Care needs to be taken to craft permalinks that are keyword rich and accurately describe your post. In this article I discuss how to manage the permalinks of each post to ensure you make the most of them. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><h3><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What are Permalinks?</span></h3><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Permalinks are the permanent links to a post page. Blogger automatically generates a permalink based on the title of your post. Permalinks provide information to the viewer about the kind of content being pointed to. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Permalinks create permanent links to your Blogger posts which are indexed by search engines such as Google. Search engines use permalinks to categorise posts. Browsers use permalinks to help navigate to your posts. When you hover over a permalink in your browser you can read the post name in the status bar.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This Post Permalink is :</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="background-color: #edf4ff; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">http://dailybloggiingtips.blogspot.com/2013/07/how-to-create-search-engine-friendly.html</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br /><h3><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Tips for Working With Permalinks in Blogger</span></h3><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">While other blogging software such as Wordpress allows the user to edit permalinks Blogger has no such feature. For this reason care needs to be taken when creating titles for your posts as the permalink generated from the title can't be changed later. The original permalink assigned at the point that the post is created remains the same no matter how many times you change the title of your post.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Another issue with Blogger is that it takes only the first 35-40 characters of your title to create the permalink so if you have a longer title you can run into problems. My suggestion is that you design your titles carefully if you want to avoid losing the end characters from your permalink. For instance a long title such as the one below would result in a shortened permalink which would lose the important fact that this post is related to working with Blogger:</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Fortunately there is a way around this problem. You will need to publish and then republish as I did with this post. The method involves creating a shorter title that will adequately summarise the content of your post (eg Improved Permalinks for Blogger Posts) and then publishing your post. Now go back and change the title to the one you prefer. In this case I changed the title to "How to Create User Friendly Permalinks For Your Blogger Posts." Now your title can be as long as you like. As you can see mine is longer than 40 characters. The permalink, however has remained the same even though the title has changed. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You can use this trick to create eye catching and memorable titles. It will also ensure that the permalink reflects a concise title and that unnecessary details in the permalink are removed. Creating concise permalinks is important for Search Engine Optimisation. Read more about <b>Search Engine Optimisation</b> in this blogs tutorial Tips for Search Engline Optimisation.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This tutorial has concentrated on crafting good permalinks as an SEO principle. It has covered ways to improve the permalinks of a Blogger blogspot blog to ensure they are keyword rich and accurately reflect the content of the post. Make sure you make the most of permalinks and see the difference in site traffic.</span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><div style="font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>my bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05361179162874067109noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331925646974124262.post-48918298932494897002013-07-09T01:11:00.000-07:002013-07-10T04:17:23.597-07:00How To Add a Sitemap to Google Webmasters tool of Your Blogspot Blog<h2><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Add a Sitemap to Google Webmasters Tools of Your Blogspot Blog</span></h2><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGC81CG0cdXWSjtpXPf71BuL30xnGX4LNF2RuXtWBatvmoAurvxMXjVfNjaOrYYPx1jOywYR8Jl6e4-j-exErI9KEiYPlgg6cOj2VuM8D3oB4VmaxGC80Ryd-B2CTiE9Vminlbk3SR4YQ7/s1600/google_webmastertools.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="google webmasters tools" border="0" height="169" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGC81CG0cdXWSjtpXPf71BuL30xnGX4LNF2RuXtWBatvmoAurvxMXjVfNjaOrYYPx1jOywYR8Jl6e4-j-exErI9KEiYPlgg6cOj2VuM8D3oB4VmaxGC80Ryd-B2CTiE9Vminlbk3SR4YQ7/s320/google_webmastertools.png" title="google webmasters tools" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I often see questions from beginner bloggers in forums about adding a sitemap of their Blogspot blog to Google. This is surprisingly easy to do although there is virtually no documentation about how to go about it. That's why I have written this tutorial with the beginner blogger in mind. It provides a set of simple step by step instructions to guide you through the process of adding a sitemap to Google. By following this tutorial you will have your Blogspot sitemap added to Google in less than 5 minutes flat.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><h2><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Why Add a Sitemap to Google?</span></h2><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As Google owns the Blogger.com platform most sites are indexed by Google automatically. However, you might find as I have done that this process doesn't always run as smoothly or as quickly as you might like. Manually adding a sitemap to Google has some distinct advantages:</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step by Step Guide to Adding Sitemap to Google</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Follow this step by step walkthrough of how to add a sitemap to Google to your Blogspot Blog and begin enjoying the benefits.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>1. Sign in to Google Webmaster Tools</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Once set up this site will give you detailed analysis about how Google indexes your blog.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>2. Navigate to the Webmaster Tools Dashboard</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Directly below the word "Dashboard" in the top lefthand corner you will see the option to add a site. Click once inside the box to remove the default text. Now enter the full URL of your site in the box including the prefix http:// and click on the "Add Site" button. For example to add this site "blogknowhow" you would enter http://blogknowhow.blogspot.com/</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>3. Navigate to Webmaster Tools Overview</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If all is going well you will now see your site in a list below the "<b>Add Site</b>" box. Click on your site in the list and you will be taken to "<b>Dashboard>>Overview</b>." It is easy to check you are in the right place as your site name will be listed in blue below the word "Overview".</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In the overview menu you will find details about Google's current indexing of your site. If Google hasn't indexed your site yet you will see the message "No pages from your site are currently included in Google's index" displayed. Alternatively if Google has already discovered your site then you will get the following message "Googlebot has successfully accessed your home page" and "Pages from your site are included in Google's index."</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>4. Select Method of Verifying Your Site</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Whether the pages of your site have been indexed or not you will be asked to click on the "<b>Verify Your Site</b>" link in the yellow box. At this point you will be given 2 options: one to verify your site by uploading an HTML file and the other by inserting a meta tag into the HTML coding on your site. As you do not have access to the server on Blogspot you will need to choose the second option. To do this select "add a meta tag" in the dropdown menu entitled "<b>Choose Verification Method</b>."</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Immediately you make your choice you will be presented with a couple of lines of text which you will need to copy to the clipboard of your computer.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>5. Go to Blogger Layout Tab of Your Site in a New Window</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In another window open Blogger and sign in if you are not already signed in. From the Dashboard navigate to the "<b>Layout</b>" menu of your blog by clicking on the Layout tab. If you have created more than one blog make sure that you click on the appropriate title of your blog.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>6. Edit the Template of Your Blog in Blogger</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In the Layout menu follow the “<b>Edit HTML</b>” link (third from left under the Layout tab). At this point you need to search through the coding in the template for the first "<b>Head</b>" tag. This will be somewhere between line 7 and 10 from the top. Once you have located the correct spot paste the code for the metatag you created in Step 4 directly into the template taking care not to overwrite any existing code. Click on the "<b>Save Template</b>" button to update your blog.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you wish to err on the side of caution you might consider backing up your template before you make any changes to it however as long as you are careful this precaution is probably not necessary.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>8. Return to Webmaster Tools and Verify Site</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Once you have saved the changes to your template return to Webmaster Tools and click on the "Verify" button at the bottom of the page in the "<b>Dashboard>>Verify a Site</b>" screen. You will then receive coonfirmation from Google that your site has been verified.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>9. Navigate to Sitemaps in Webmaster Tools</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Once your site is verified you can now move on to adding your sitemap. To do this navigate to Sitemaps by following the "<b>Sitemaps</b>" link in the sidemenu. This will take you to "Dashboard >> Sitemaps" where you will see a box with the URL of your site already added. Next to the box will be a button labelled "<b>Submit Sitemap</b>."</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>10. Add Sitemap in Webmaster Tools</b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As your blog was created in Blogspot we are going to make use of the rss or atom feed. Either can be used for this purpose.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">On the Sitemaps page in Webmaster Tools type either atom.xml or rss.xml into the box provided to extend the displayed URL and click on the "Submit Sitemap" button. Using the same example as before http://blogknowhow.blogspot.com/ becomes either</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">http://dailybloggiingtips.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">or</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">http://dailybloggiingtips.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">All going well Google will then display a message indicating that your sitemap submission is pending. It can take some hours for your sitemap to be fully updated by Google. At that point you will be able to see the number of URLs identified by Google and the time of the last download. Updates to these rules generally take place in the form of updates to the algorithm that regulates the ranking of a given page for a query. These updates may be minor, such as tweaks that affect only a small handful of spam websites or ban a certain domain. Others may be far more volatile, such as the recent Panda updates. </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /></div><h3><b style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">What is Google Penguin update?</b><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"> </span></h3><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Penguin is the newest code-named update series Google has rolled out. Panda was an update that focused on the quality of legitimate sites and their content, giving boosts to sites with high quality content while reducing the ranking of low quality content farms. Penguin focuses on the other end of things. The Penguin update emphasizes removing sites from the rankings if they are found to be using black-hat techniques. </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><h3><b style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Black-Hat Techniques</b><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"> </span></h3><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Black-hat is a term taken from the hacking community, meaning shady or illegal tactics. The opposite would be white-hat techniques, which are strategies for following the rules most effectively. The exact definition for what falls into one or the other color hat depends on the changing rules of the game. </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">In the early days of SEO, nearly anything was white-hat. Spamming keywords in hidden areas of a website was common. Creating networks of websites to link to a legitimate site for a massive SEO boost was an easy way for webmasters to make money. Eventually, Google caught on to these methods of gaming the system and started labeling them black-hat. They actively punish sites that take advantage of these tactics today. </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><h3><b style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Modern Day Black-Hat</b><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"> </span></h3><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Penguin has a fixed definition of what is considered a webspam or black-hat technique. Here are some of the more common tactics that Penguin flags for punishment. </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><ul style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"><li style="margin-left: 15px;">Keyword stuffing. This is when the keyword density on a page becomes so high that it could be an obstacle to the quality of the content</li><li style="margin-left: 15px;">Cloaking. This is when certain code is used to cause the search engine web crawler to see different content than a user sees visiting a page</li><li style="margin-left: 15px;">Link schemes. Creating a large network of machine-generated spam sites with the intent to link to a legitimate site, causing a huge boost to incoming links, is one possible link scheme. These schemes are considered artificial means of bypassing the current system of link exchanging for quality</li><li style="margin-left: 15px;">Scraped or duplicate content. Stealing content word for word, stealing and spinning content or posting multiple instances of the same content are all ways to use one piece of content multiple times, sometimes via outright theft. These are all considered webspam and are punished</li></ul><h3><b style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">The History of Penguin</b><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"> </span></h3><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">The first Google Penguin update was implemented on April 24, 2012, though it was not publicly identified as Penguin until the 26th. Penguin was meant to be a smaller-scale update than Panda, affecting only three percent of English-language queries. </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Shortly after the initial implementation of Penguin #1, many webmasters cried out about unfair traffic loss. Google created a feedback page for two purposes. It allowed webmasters to report black-hat sites that still maintained high rankings, and it allowed webmasters who felt their sites were penalized unfairly to receive reconsideration. </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">The second Penguin update occurred on May 25, 2012. It continued the anti-black-hat strategies of the original Penguin, while processing many of the requests made via the feedback form. This generally improved the accuracy of the ongoing Penguin initiative. </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #111111; font-family: Arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">For several months, Google warned users that the next Penguin update would be a major shake-up of the industry. Instead, they rolled out Penguin #3 on October 5th, a minor update that affected less than .3 percent of queries. This is the limit Google displays in search results. Title tags longer than 70 characters may be truncated in the results, or search engines may choose to display different text from the document in place of the title tag. Recent experiments have shown that the number of characters displayed in the search results may also vary based on—among other things—the width in pixels of each letter. 70 characters is still a good general guideline for length, though</span></div></div><div><div style="background-color: #fcfcfc; box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Because title tags are such an important part of search engine optimization, implementing best practices for title tags makes for a terrific low-effort, high-impact SEO task. Here are critical recommendations for optimizing title tags for search engine and usability goals:</span></div><div style="background-color: #fcfcfc; box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">Be Mindful of Length -</strong>A maximum amount of 70 characters will display in the search results. The engines will show an ellipsis, "..." to indicate that a title tag has been cut off.</span></div><div style="background-color: #fcfcfc; box-sizing: border-box; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 22px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">Place Important Keywords Close to the Front of the Title Tag - </strong>According to testing and experience, the closer to the start of the title tag a keyword is, the more helpful it will be for ranking—and the more likely a user will be to click them in search results</span></div><div style="background-color: #fcfcfc; box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 22px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 22px;"><b>Avoid keyword stuffing</b>. It's sometimes helpful to have a few descriptive terms in the title, but there’s no reason to have the same words or phrases appear multiple times. A title like "Foobar, foo bar, foobars, foo bars" doesn't help the user, and this kind of keyword stuffing can make your results look spammy to Google and to users.</span></span></div></div><b style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Duplicate Web Page Titles</b><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">-Another common mistake is having duplicate page titles. This makes it difficult to determine which page is which when they are all displayed in search engine results pages.<br />As previously said, all of your web pages should be unique — so by logic, all of your web page titles should also be unparalleled.</span><div><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222;"><br /></span></span></div></div>my bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05361179162874067109noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6331925646974124262.post-65367319324933226002013-07-07T22:41:00.000-07:002013-07-10T04:17:23.616-07:00How to Make Money With Affiliate Marketing <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div><h2 style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Effective Affiliate Marketing on a Blog</span></h2></div><div><br /></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #111111; line-height: 21.983333587646484px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Affiliate marketing</strong> is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people’s (or company’s) products.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #111111; line-height: 21.983333587646484px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You find a product you like, promote it to others, and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.</span></div><ul style="background-color: white; color: #111111; line-height: 21.983333587646484px; list-style-image: none; list-style-position: outside; margin: 0px 0px 1.571em 1.571em; padding: 0px;"><li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You’re happy because you earned a commission…</span></li><li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The company is happy because they have a new sale from a customer that they might not have normally been able to reach…</span></li><li style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And the customer is happy because they learned about a product from you that will hopefully fulfill a need or desire.</span></li></ul><div style="background-color: white; color: #111111; line-height: 21.983333587646484px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The beauty of affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to invest the time and effort to create a product to sell. So in SEO terms we use H1 for blog's post title. But the problem is with blogger; blogger adds H3 to post title in default templates. So we must at least promote the headings for post titles from H3 to H2. To do this task follow given tips below.</span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><h3><span style="font-weight: normal;">Go to Blog Template and then HTML >> Proceed. </span></h3></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: medium;">Search for H3 and from the CSS to HTML change all 8 or 9 <b>H3</b> tags to <b>H2. </b></div><div style="font-size: medium;">That's all and save template.</div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><h3 style="font-size: medium;">3. Optimize Blogger/blog Lables</h3><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: white;">The Lable links are the tags which used in Blogger. For a better user navigation we use these tags in Blogger. They most often create problems for search engines crawlers. So we need to change them to their respective HTML attributes. Here is how?</span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div><div style="font-size: medium;"><h3><b>Go to Blog Template >> HTML >> Proceed</b></h3></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: medium;">Search for This piece of Code: </div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: #f4cccc;"><a expr:href='data:label.url'</span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: medium;">Replace it with this:</div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><span style="background-color: #f4cccc;"><a expr:href='data:label.url' rel='tag' </span></div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: medium;">Save Template and that's all for Labels.</div><div style="font-size: medium;">Note: If rel='tag' is already exists then don't change anything, leave it as it is.</div><div style="font-size: medium;"><br /></div><h3 style="font-size: medium;">4.
